Moths

On June 2006 a Moth Watch Evening was held at Hillingdon Athletic Club by the Ruislip and District Natural History Society. It was led by Moth expert Ched George who started the evening by showing some moths he had captured the previous evening together with exhibits and books.

A couple of large lights were placed onto white sheets and we waited until it got dark to see what it attracted. The varieties were plentiful and the colours of the moths were amazing.

Opposite are some of the moths I managed to photograph and here is the list of the whole amount of moths we saw that night, 65 different species in total!

Ched held another one this year on 13th July 2007 at the same venue. It was a cloudy evening, quite cool and the evening was brought to an abrupt end when it started to pour down resulting in the lights blowing! However we saw 48 different species, results can be seen here.
